For a 26 year old type I maxell master cassette made with a boombox, it sounds pretty good.

One of only 14 times Birdsong was played in second set. 11 of those 14 came in 1971 or 1972. The last three all came in 1981, this being the first.
One of only two times that Birdsong opened the second set, the other being 4/14/71.

I have been on this site for years exploring dead music and have tons of sbds etc...I like going back a few times per year for a audience show with a nice list I can listen to. In a car or on head phones crank this show up and turn down the treble. Songs like playin, birdsong, lazy light>supp and the drums and space and other one are great- Jerrys leads are clear and deliberat and crisp as the crowd quiets in its grove. The more raucus and crowd engaging songs like Casey Jones and Samson and others are more strained, yet totally listenable and enjoyable. The playing Jam is a 12 minute portion of a long 17 minute version. The birdsong and Playing deserve at least a listen- ah, hello... did I mention the Terrapin jamfest that tweaks your soul before playing?...Its a 4 start audience (B) quality.

Don't assume the worst about the "boom box" quality. The other sources do have crispier high-end, but also sound kind of flat; this one has a great, round, upclose fob sound that's much more pleasing to me. Fantastic Bird Song, and one of the longest of the 80's after the 3/7 UMD titan. Too bad they never opened with it again, since it definitely sets the right vibe for the second set. Good feeling, good sound, good stuff.
