bread crumb
one of the more interesting aspects of listening to each show in chronological order is discovering the relentless quality night after night. I think I've heard, from the beginning of time to this date, exactly one bad show.
It's also interesting to read the comments that get posted (like this one) - the ranking of shows and songs, the star ratings are all kind of absurd to me. The notion of the holy grail - that one show that was perfect, or the perfect Scarlet-Fire. So much of my appreciation is tuned to the sounds that connect me to sounds I heard when I was there. It's not about the perfectly played collection of notes.

early 80's SBD
Better than avg recording for the period when cassette PA feeds were an afterthought. The tape useage /flips were careless etc. second sets were started on the same cassette as 1st set leading to bad cuts/ tape flips. AS I said these were an 'afterthought' they didnt spend the extra buck or two to record second set on a 'fresh' tape leading to the cuts etc
81 -83/84 SBD tapes are very problematic. Little to no bass, 'hot' vocals etc.
check out the bassless SBD's from Europe 10/81 for example.
This SBD(whats there) is better than avg for period as I stated previously and the show is avg for the period

admittedly skipped 1st set and went right to the 2nd for efficacy sake. unusual and interesting bobby vocal outro in estimated... 4 stars through wheel while nfa, sugar mag and satisfaction an ez 5 star..
5 star show for sheer energy level and jamming level for end of 2nd set.

I really like this one...
This show really has some nice and memorable moments. I really like the Eyes. It's not 73, but I really don't care because it sounds so good. It's a 4.5 to me so I'll balance it out with a 5. Give it a listen and see what you think.

Jill Lesh's First show(?)
Furthur sorta mimicked this on 2/13/11, supposedly as Phil Valentine's gift to Jill. Seems a bit bright to me on initial perusal. One more time, all together now, (say it out loud), "Thanks Charlie!"
