I lived a few blocks away on Capitol Hill and was 15 years old! It was hot! I drank so much water it almost felt like too much. I wish I had known more about what I was hearing then - it's not bad - sad that ole'Jerr got sick soon after.

This was such an odd show. A few days before I was on the beach in AC when these random people asked me if I was going to RFK. When I said no, they gave me two tickets, so a friend and I drove down for the show. It was hot, and I mean hot. My friend decided that this would be the perfect day to drop acid for the first time, and after the first dose didn't seem to work, and the second dose didn't seem to work, he took his third. Eventually, they all kicked in. Somewhere during the Dylan/Petty set, he wandered off and I was starting to get a little worried, and tried finding him. We were on the field, and trying to find one guy who's about 5'2" wasn't the easiest. Eventually, I found him sitting with a group of people holding a paper-mache Jerry head on a stick, and they were having a grand ole conversation.
Anyway, the show itself was amazing. First time I ever really liked Saint of Circumstance, and I've been a fan ever since. A great rocking show. I had a tape of this and it was a key part of driving music when I was on the road all the time.

I remember traveling down to the show with my wife. We met a few friends there and were in the hot sun. @ 9PM when the sun set it still showed 99 deg on the board!
As far as the show I remember Dylan being in leather pants and not know what song he was playing. The Washington Post wrote something like that.
The Dead where the Dead fun great etc. I think Jerry got sick after these shows.

dinging this to bring some perspective back to the picture. glad you had fun; i was there and thought it was one of the lamer show experiences I had. More importanly, people searching for 5 star shows should NOT be directed to this one - lets save that for the playing, sound quality, song selection, etc. Not that it was a good time (how many shows were a really bad time?)

Wow. This bring back some awesome memories. Thanks to Archive for getting this one up. The Dead batted clean-up that day during an all-day concert for which Tom Petty opened, followed by Dylan and then the Dead. Awesome day of music, magical to a 17 yo who was there with a bunch of high school buddies from the Baltimore area, some for whom this was likewise their first show. It was HOT as hell as I recall. The stadium was hosing the crowd down up near the stage between acts/sets to cool everyone off. I frankly don't remember the music much, as I was, well, let's just say "well-medicated" and I was into the scene as much as anything back then, just mesmerized by the whole experience. But I suppose I gotta give this one 5 stars if for no other reason than nostalgia. I went on to see the boys 23 more times after this show, mostly whenever they passed through DC, but this show obviously ranks pretty high for me. Glad to hear it again. Again, thanks for putting this gem up.
