Subject: Wish You Were Here
This show was bouncing off a great show in Pittsburgh 7.6.87 and was in the middle of the Dead/Dylan run....One of the few without Dylan.
It was a stretch your arms and have fun show. Everyone -- band especially -- was happy to be where they were, when they were. i.e. Jerry healthy.
This is the only time I remember them playing Roanoke, which was a neat town and arena, like Hampton, but even smaller. And the town was totally unprepared for the masses but I think handled us well.
7.10.87 was the reunite with Dylan at JFK in Philly. Another superb Dead show, and the last for that colliseum.
Do yourself a favor and listen to the 7.6 and 7.10.....
Back then I only had a weeks worth of vacation and just enough money to enjoy it. ..... Listening to this, it's still paying dividends.

Subject: Outstanding 2nd set...!!
This is a beautiful-sounding AUD recording; I wish they ALL sounded this good! Just the right amount of crowd noise to make you remember & feel what it was like to Be There....

The 1st set, although solidly played, is nothing to write home about, really, relative to the period....but the "Let It Grow" closer is SUPERB and sets us up for an amazing 2nd set.

The 2nd set list is mouth-watering and does not disappoint. I'm having a hard time choosing highlights here but should note that the ENTIRE set is played with much confidence & passion, from the first note to the last: everyone taking their time with all ears open, Garcia nailing every one his lyrics, including the often-butchered "Crazy Fingers". "Scarlet Begonias" is very, very strong and "Fire" features some brilliant jams, the crowd getting more & more fired up as it rolls along. "He's Gone" is devastating. Drums & Space are quite engaging and just the right length. "Sugar Magnolia" is very passionate & creative, a cut WAY above the sound-alikes of the era.

Quite simply a SUPERB, flawlessly-played 2nd set with some nice surprises in the list. Just when you think "Truckin'" will leap into something like "Around And Around" to wrap things up, Jerry bites into a delicious & flawless "Comes A Time"......I wish ALL period setlists were this wonderful!

Although I don't listen to or review very many shows beyond, say, 1982, I DO acknowlege that 1987 was a VERY strong year for the band.....and this set indeed warrents special attention. The Dead have Truly Come To Play. This era was the peak of my Grateful Dead concert-going experience. (Aaahhhhhh: Fall of 1987: Philadelphia, NYC, etc....WOW!!!)

Download this GREAT audience recording (at least the 2nd set), crank it up loud and be transported to a fabulous evening with the band!

Five stars, based on the 2nd set alone!!
