Subject: 2Days of the DEAD! My First Shows! Thanks Sharon and Karl
It was a warm July day, that afternoon of July 17,1989 when me and my two best Deadhead friends arrived in East Troy, Wisconsin to attend the 3 night stand of the Good Ol' Grateful Dead in Alpine Valley. Sharon was worn out from the road and the week, Karl was tired of driving and I---Well!, I was freakin' in the backseat of the cougar and wishin' we had some weed. To no avail could the three of us find a stopr in motel to shower and cop a couple of z's before we hit the Valeey, so, we decided to go ahead and pull in to the Alpine lot. No sooner than we got there were we hooked up with some fun-gi and some dosie does from the lot. I plunged in head first and decided to mix both and hit shakedown street. By the time I got back to my unset up tent did I proceed to build my home for the next three days and seek some solace from the heat. While I was relaxing in my geodesic crib I looke up and saw the image of the Bob Marley star of david sticker on my ceiling that I had seen earlier on the lot. Ofcourse, it was the apparition of such and yes, I was pleasantly pleased with my purchases from that hippie guy who was fung and doiedoin' all around. Now, let's get on with the showwwwww! As I had previously stated, this was my first Deadshow experience and man was it worth it all!! I thought the boys pulled out a great starter in let the good times roll. This was a sure sign that this weekend was going to change my life FOREVER and boy howdy did it, has it and it still is! next, feel like a stranger--I as sure feelin' it and it was sure gettin' stranger. Yet, I eased on into the scene and found myself awed and amazed at this mass of people who were havin' a ball and dancin' like Snoopy on cloud nine. Since I had not been fully delved in the world of Deadheadom and it's music, I was first a little lost in some of the music repretoire and the scene but found it just groovin', man. What really got me was when these guy behind me say,"w atch this he's gonna eat the mushroom he forget was in his pocket." I feel my watchpocket and BOOM! I felt the mushroom in my pocket that I had forgotten about! Blew my mind! This experience of the dead was for me the golden road to unlimited devotion and I have never looked back since. No regrets, even though I got busted for dose and weed a few years later. I quit trippin dose for 12 years after that but I have recently found my family again and am back in the groove with the family at schwagstocks.Go third gen hippies we second gens are here to help light the way for ya and see to it that you have some safe yet exhilirating fun! For me,I guess that it was Standing on the moon that touched my soul more than anything that weekend. Jerry in a rare red pocke tee and shorts, sounded sooo lovely and kind that I was enthralled with him and the boys comeuppance in life. The whole three days were filled with fun joy friends and grate music. Thank You casey and bob for puttin this out there in this format. I have the 1st gen boards from this on tape and I have been looking for the availability to download these memorable shows on disc. Now thanks to you two and ARCHIVE.org my dream has been fulfilled! LOVE all you guys out there. Keep on freakin' freely and Keep it REAL,Y'all! SPIRAL-TEE SMILE
