Under rated show !
Hey Gang, I was at this show ! It was really, really hot and humid KY weather! I remember my dad telling me to be careful because the local police publicly said they were going to be in full undercover mode for criminal mischief. As a consequence, over 100 people were arrested during the event; I recall one article in the local newspaper saying bail was denied to one person because the license plate on their bus was "Rablin' Rose" ... wow !
However, the Grateful Dead play a wonderful performance at this show. I think for a couple of reasons , one they knew the cops were busting a lot of fans and the PA sounded absolutely horrible. I heard a week later that the GD had problems with the local stage hands union and went to UPS for labor; my buddy who was working there got the job. It seems to me when the police crack down on the scene; the band plays Truckin' ... yep , we get a rare for the time era "Space > Truckin"! Also, the GD deliver a ungodly JAM off the end of He's Gone that no other show from the tour really touches it!
A really nice LONG 1st set clocking into upwards of 80 minutes ; highlights are: Desolation Row, West LA fadeaway, Ramble On Rose (which seems always to be played in Louisville shows!) and Music Never Stopped! The Second set is long too, highlights are China > Rider , Standing on the Moon, He's Gone > JAM ! , Truckin' - I think the China Cat is the best from the tour too.
It was such hot weather, Garcia was wearing shorts - I also think I have a DSB because there is no tope flips in my source? Also, check out View from the Vault #1 to see Standing on the Moon > He's Gone > JAM
