energy builds throughout; one of those 'first night back at msg' shows that unfurl effortlessly and w/ power.

Any show with a jammed-out Terrapin gets 5 stars from me.

So my opinion may be biased a bit, maybe.
I remember thinking after the show that it felt like Jerry had carried the band this night, not that Bobby, Phil, Mickey, Billy, and even Vince weren't doing their part, but that in the audience Jerry was very prominent in the mix. He seemed to be leading the charge and was a man on a mission
This soundboard recording is much clearer and much better balanced. Although, Jerry still seems to be a man possessed tonight. He really rips his leads.
Fun fun times, sure do miss them
5 stars for the quality of the recording, 3 stars for the performance - while a good show, it was not a great show. 4 stars overall

Subject: Welcome back to NY show
Subject: Welcome back to NY show
Flew into JFK, hopped a cab to MSG, found a friend at the USPS, shared a smoke, dosed and went it in. When I got up to the front I knew I had a close floor seat on Jerry's side so I went over to check out Phil's equipment. As I stood there looking a gal tells me that her friend is taping and that I could have his seat if I wanted. Right in front of Phil's speakers. She was a kindergarten teacher from Philly; in just a few minutes I realized I had made a friend. We hung out the whole show, even grabbed each others hands during the intense parts of the show, like Jerry's trumpet solo in Ramble on Rose and the sweet 3/4 section of Wharf Rat. Then after the show said goodbye and went off into the night. Killer II set: Awesome Scarlet > Fire, sweet Terrapin. Other One knocked me over. Sweet Wharf Rat, Rockin' Sugar Mag.

While I am by no means saying that there aren't great shows to be found in the post-Brent 1990-1995 era, you can really tell that the wind was leaking out of Garcia's sails starting with the first Bruce/Vince shows. The awesome, raging power of the 1989 and Spring 1990 tours dissipated, and the tempos began to slow, Jerry's voice became more forced and strained, and the group synthesis became a little looser (as I type this, Jerry just accidentally played through the end of his solo on the DP 9 Tennessee Jed, missing the cue to return to the chorus).
Aside from the incredible summer JGB shows, this was the beginning of the end. Still, great music, aside from when Vince breaks out his Casio keyboard and sets it to the violin sound, and when Bobby layers on that awful distortion.

Show was OK- You could tell that, at times, these shows were the real beginning of Jerrys death rattle tours.
About the 20 th time I been at the Garden(line in north Jersey)- -seen better shows- but this 2nd set was special- the boys rallied
Appreciative ,respectful crowd, lots of younger DH,s- -but they were mostly knowledgeable and there for the music. Unlike the outdoor shows, where these times brought out a lot of kids for the drugs
All in all- -a pretty good show

"Average performance" ? Are you all insane ?
This second set was one of the best of the 90's and signaled what was to come during that MSG run. There's a moment in the second jam of "Fire" where I swear all of us were lifted about 6 inches off of the floor by Phil's crushing bass. An unforgettable moment.
The entire 2nd set is the stuff of magic, and for the next 5 nights it would only get better from there...
I feel nothing short of privileged to see The Dead in one of their last great runs...

Fine recording, average performance. Welnick butchers Cassidy with his backup vocals. Nothing else really stands out, way overhyped based on other reviews/ratings.

Anyway, thanks for this.
