Subject: Holiday Run!
Subject: Holiday Run!
Of course this show is the Easter Sunday to the 1991-04-01 April Fools Day holiday party. These shows were fantastically fun, with the Phil Lesh Double Quartet really finding its jazz legs during Round 'n' Round. Bruce Hornsby and Vince Welnick on the dueling keyboards, Weir & Garcia on the guitfiddles, and the wonder twins or rhythm devils, or whatever the hell ya call Hart & Kreutzmann?! The double Chuck Berry inside the double Dylan sandwich is a nice touch and bodes well for the exploration of the following night.
This audience recording demonstrates just how good it really sounded inside the hockey puck. Top notch, Five stars all around *****

VG show in gen, but honestly odd how EYES keeps getting these rave reviews. It starts out wonderfully but then the drummers start dozing off and leave Garcia playing some wonderful stuff but with a wimpy sort of aimless backing. I honestly think he thought 'screw it' and just kept his energy up even though their's was flagging.

Can't believe I'm first to right a review for this recording, as mighty fine it is! No words can do this show justice. As it's been said: writing about music is like dancing about architecture. And this is a prime example. I remember being brought to tears twice at this show. First during the tremendous, expansive, spine-tingling, show opening Half Step and then again at the outset of 'Eyes'. To paraphrase another review, "I lost myself in the Eyes." Nice that the best run of my 15 years of shows was in my hometown. Thanks for the sweet recording!
