Subject: Not too shabby for Spring 92
Subject: Not too shabby for Spring 92
I agree that this is the best sounding capture for this evening. The Spring 92 tour was not a high water mark for the band. It was enough to turn Hornsby off entirely, he would become an infrequent guest musician going forward. That said they showed up at Landover looking to rock on this Sunday night from the sounds of it. A 9 song first set is the longest of the year (so far) and is packed with up-tempo crowd pleasers that do just that. Touch of Grey features the rare "say your peace and piss off" line which is noteworthy. Black Throated Wind and Loose Lucy back to back in this room had to have reminded folks of the Landover run just two years prior where they were both played for the first time since 1974. Big Railroad and Music Never Stopped close out this hot first set in style. Hornsby, Vince, and Jerry pass the jam hat around in Big RXR to fine effect and Music is a keeper after Bobby recovers from some lyrical amnesia. Garcia gets off a great "horn" solo on Music before he goes for a more trad guitar tone that seems to suffer from a drive/volume issue compared to the "horn", but if you're able to listen through Vinnie’s repetitive chords - Jerry is twirling some licks. A fine first set. Second set doesn't match the promise of the first to my ear but sounds like a fine night outside of DC.

Maybe a better one will surface eventually. Fantastic show, though.

This was my first show. I remember it being very cold outside, but the parking lot crowd was very forgiving to a green Dead Head. I remember the feeling of awe I had when I saw the band come on stage.
This isn't the highest quality recording I've heard, but it is worth a listen. Thank you to whoever uploaded it.
