mixed emotions this night
I arv'd in Vegas the evening before. Had no hotel room and did not sleep. It was a hot day! Was not feeling very well before the show. At this time I was getting a bit older, and did not have that indestructible youth thing going for me. We got to Sam Boyd kind of lazily. The big line of storm clouds was coming in. We blew through the security and parked very close to the stadium. And, then, BLAMMO! A fierce storm hit. A bolt of lightning landed not far from us in our car. But the desert does not give you much rain, it was gone just as fast as it hit.
Walking over to the entrance we saw some guy that looked like he lost badly in a fight. It was odd to see somebody in that condition at a show. We enjoyed the show, but I got a bit too high and don't remember much beyond the second set Scarlet/Fire. On the way back into town my buddy driving didn't let me go to the bathroom, so when we finally parked in the casino, I was about to bust my blatter. I went in the parking lot and of course security busted me. I was holding "things" that could have put me away in Nevada for a decade or more. But, Jerry saves, and I talked my way out of getting hauled in for Indecent Exposure, and the inevitable search that would have revealed my "things" and turned my life into hell.
Then, a few months later I'm at Soldier's Field shows in Chicago at break time. Some dude is telling these folks next to me about how he got struck by lightning in Vegas. The band heard of his situation and gave him Backstage passes for the next two nights. He met the whole band and everybody. Had the best time ever, stayed with them at their hotel. But, he has this BIG gash on his forehead.
As far as the show, I can't really remember much of it. I was there, but I wasn't really there. I was almost thrown into jail for a long time because I had to pee in the Casino parking lot. I remember a lame encore of I Fought the Law, which was a foreshadowing of my post show run-in. So, much for the nice warning note the band gave me with my tickets.
This Vegas trip was not like my previous one 3/26/83 at the Aladdin Theater. That was so much fun!
This set of shows was the moment in which I saw the whole Dead scene collapse. There were no more really amazing shows anymore. No more incredible scenes outside in the lots anymore. I knew it was coming when Brent died, but, in Vegas '93, I just had this thought that the scene was collapsing. It didn't stop me from going to shows though!!! I still see the boys in their new bands as much as possible. But, the day of past are just that, past. So happy to have seen them starting 11/16/78 at the Uptown Theater thru the "last show" also in Chicago. 101 wonderful experiences!!! Thank you everybody!!!

Prit Near durn good.
For 93, this was a pretty good show. I didn’t go, but finally got to enjoy it thanks to Charlie and this board transfer. Yes they’ve done longer Scarlet/Fires, no I Fought The Law was not a great encore, but this show holds up, more than most of the outdoor Vegas shows. I really like this version of Liberty.
