Downloaded this one looking at the SOTM Jam and a generally decent looking song selection/setlist.
Nothing short of average here. With Jerry about half-present and rarely playing with speed and fire.
I am a HUGE fan of 1993. I love the spring tour. So underrated with great energy and interesting jams. Summer tour has some great shows too including the Freedom Hall (6/15) show and the RFK Hornsby guesting. For the fall tour the hot night at the Spectrum seems to outshine most, including this show.
First set could have taken off with Stranger, but Jerry never gets into the groove. Bobby's vocals sound fresh and enthusiastic but can't make up for Jer's lacking. From then on its pure averageville with a lame set-closer and other than the opener no real jammed numbers.
Foolish Heart, one of my favorites, suffers immensely here. I just don't feel that chemistry between Vince and Jer. When Bruce was playing with them in 1991 they had some KILLER Foolish Hearts, this one pales in comparison. Estimated>Eyes is underwhelming with little improvisational attempt.
SOTM Jam isn't a jam but a false start that never recovers. It sounds like the band is confused about what Jer is trying to do and instead of doing something with it he didn't communicate and just dumped them into Black Peter. (groan)
So this to me is a two star show. Charlie MIller's killer transfer bumps it up to a three. Theres no colossal failures, just nothing impressive. Jer is somewhere else this night, and the performance suffers.

The boys tear into this one two-times slower than any other. You try singing it. Completely wrong for the song, so Jerry decides to switch gears, rather than attempt to complete it.

Subject: Awesome first night of fall tour
Subject: Awesome first night of fall tour
Unfortunately I traded my third night tickets because we were supposed to be back in Michigan for a wedding(that we didn't end up going to). This night was more psychadelic than the second. After recently listening to the third night, my friend and I coined it 'Blues for Buddah'. Listen to the spacey Uncle Johns that doesn't come back from space to refrain the final verse/chorus. Seriously trippy music.
This nightn first set, though, was classic 'Richfield' set, although played well, could have been a first set from any of the richfield shows since fall 1990. This place became a midwest home venue after the death of Brent. The second set was better. I had right side stage seats and was getting off pretty good. Probably my first real appreciation of 'foolish heart' at the time and afterward became one of my favorite tunes to hear through 95. Im not sure if I knew it was the first estimated eyes at that time and probably found this out by calling the GD hotline to find out whomever it was reading/interpreting the sets.(No internet in those days). The drums/space was really spacey and the miracle had to be played for time reasons i imagine. The post miracle jam got out there again and it seemed like jerry wanted to keep jamming. I'm not sure if he really had SOTM jam in mind while playing it. I remember hoping for the comes a time and at a point thought he might go into it. Of course, I often hoped jerry would play world to give, too. Oh well, it was jerry. And his fall tour debut of his new lightning bolt guitar that he busted out in Eugene a few weeks prior to these shows. He was turned up and could make it sound almost acoustic/country sounding at times.

I had alot of fun at this show. It was well played with a few significant moments. The first set Jerry's guitar was turned way up in the mix, particularly "Peggy-O". "Wang Dang Doodle" and "Brown Eyed Women" were a real treat and the "Johnny B. Goode" was pulled off quite well too.
The second set was solid as well, opening with "Foolish Heart" which was well performed accept for a small mistake with the lyric's("a foolish heart is trouble but a foolish heart is worse") a common mistake for Jerry...no biggie. Then the first Estimated-> Eyes since 07/22/90[226] wow what a surprise, sweet candy with a flashy wrapper. The "Standing On The Moon Jam" was unexpected and the only time it was done. Nice show and the sound is quite nice aswell.
As for the glitches "ShiningStar" refered to I think its the vocal mic's being turned down. That's why the crowd noise all of a sudden gets very quiet. If you listen it only happens when the vocals from a verse are finished and in between songs, listen to the crowd in the background. I've heard this in boards from the eighties aswell but it's present in alot of 1993 boards.

Well that certainly makes sense! Thanks Charlie - again, I hope my comments weren't misconstrued.
Five stars for the quality of the recording, four stars for show itself.

That annoying glitch sound you hear is a poorly EQ'd drum. It's on a lot of the 93 boards.... drives me nuts. Listen to 2/23/93. It's there too.
