Good shows post '82 for sho!
My first show was Blossom Music Center in Ohio on 6-29-84 which was off the hook. They opened with Day Tripper, and the energy was ecstatic! I was 16. Recordings I have of shows that summer like Saratoga, FL, Merriwether Post Pavillion, and then the triple Berkeley Greek theater shows are really hot shows all of them and can not be compared to say a '69 show that features Pig Pen and really the band has transformed quite a bit. Also saw some Red Rocks shows in '87 that were crazy fun times and good music. This last show's performance of So Many Roads would've been worth the price of admission imho. So let's not bag on a great band that did their thing as long as they possibly could. I love Pig Pen, and the 60's-70's era, Keith and Donna, but it's nuts to say no good shows after '82. Also some of their weakest shows were in late '74 and '75, which is no big secret. Jerry Band was raging back then, LOM touring. So that actually may have been their weakest period was lat '74'75. The 80's they were blazing with a whole new generation of heads. Listen, listen, so many roads to ease my soul.

are you sure about that?
I think it's fair to say there were some pretty strong shows after 1982, and '89-90 is widely considered to be a final return to form for the band. Of the ones I saw, you might consider the following as especially notable:
3/27/88 - Hampton
7/17-18/89 - Alpine
10/9/89 - Hampton
3/22/90 - Hamilton, ON
7/18-19/90 - Deer Creek
The band was definitely "on" for those shows, playing with muscle and verve, and Brent was at the top of his game just before checking out. They were happy and it showed. So don't kid yourself, and if you missed out on that period completely, try giving it a listen...

c'mon folks....don't kid yourselves....
if you want to hear the Grateful Dead at their best ya gotta listen to 1966 through 1980 (1982 at the very latest). Any new listeners reading this post take my advice. You won't be disappointed. Nobody likes to hear that the years they saw the Dead in-person sucked but the reality is post-1982 Grateful Dead is nowheres near pre-1982.

Jerry's farewell!!!!
Damn it!! I used to think that tears were a sign of weekness, but I also used to be weak!I was 15 when Jerry left us,but he had as much of an impact on my life as he did on my Father's,who had been at this for 20 some years before I came into the picture. This is very hard to listen to,for me anyway. So Many Roads still causes a lump to rise up in my throat and tears to flood my eyes!My son is 6 years old,and he woke up just a minute ago,I don't know how long he had been standing behind me,but I thought that I was alone untill he came up to me with his little chin quivering and said " it's OK dad"! This is the first time that he has seen his Dad cry,and I wasn't balling or anything, but enough for him to notice. So, I took the headphones off and turned it up!! After just a few bars,he looked up at me and "Wow,that is sad,but I thought that Jerry was happy all the time". So,at 1 in the morning, after he had forgotten all about the bad dream he had,we are in a deep conversation about how no one is happy all the time not even Jerry! That eventually led to how he died, and I do not lie to my children,so after an hour long talk,I feel better,he is back to sleep, and I listened to So many Roads again, but this time it brought a smile, and not such a big lump in my throat! I just felt very compelled to share this with anyone else who happens to stumble upon this very sad,but beautiful farewell to life!I think that he knew his time was up,but that's just me!Thanx to whoever posted this, and everyone should have this in their collection! PEACE,LOVE,and The Grateful Goddamn Dead!!!!!!!!

So here I am downloading this show in the hopes of quenching my thirst for AUD tapes. I figure start from the end and work your way back up. It can only get better. Right? As far as the concert goes, its not quite the train wreck that I always thought this show to be. Its clear that without Jerry Garcia firing on all cylinders, and the rest of the band trying to pick up the slack, they sound un-balanced. As far as the recording goes, its very good and it makes you feel like you are there. The SBD's may be craved, but its the AUD recordings that are the true legacy. So the quest continues, thanks for reading and listening.
