My first Dead show
I was in Madison visiting a soon-to-be ex-boyfriend who had bought the tickets.
He was INCENSED, incensed, I tell you, to discover that New Riders were like pretty much the same guys as the Dead so he wasn't really getting two bands for his ticket price.
He was so angry he left as soon as the Dead came on and he realized it.
(Oh no, don't make me listen to Jerry Garcia twice in a row!
Srsly, what was his problem?)
Anyway, I did't leave and it was a life-changing show for me.
Whatever this was, this was what I was looking for.
I'm so glad for a chance to re-visit the joy.
And, yes, it's as good as I remembered

My First Dead Concert
No one wanted to go with me that Sunday night. Do you believe it?
Having spent the entire summer of "70 listening to their albums, I skipped studying for the chemistry exam I had the next morning.
What a venue. Nothing fancy. There had to be just a few hundred in attendance. Up on my feet most of the time, but when I wanted to close my eyes (you know what I mean) there was room to lie down on the gymnasium floor about 30 feet from the short platform they were playing on -- all of them playing. Unfortunately, it was the first and last time I saw Pigpen.
Since then, what a long, strange trip it's been!

Re: my first time
We drove 500 miles one way through ND and Minn. Well worth it. I was tripping and still what stood out was Good Lovin. I see many others agree. It was the experience of a lifetime. How was I to know there would be so many others - Mpls campus, Red Rocks, Boulder...

Underrated show!
Though the song probably peaked in April, this Good Lovin is an absolute monster performance; insane energy with Jerry and Phil carrying the jam to some mesmerizing heights. Killer version of Hard to Handle, especially the second half of the jam (after the tape cut) which really takes off, Jerry and Phil again going at it hard. Great stuff, and a seemingly overlooked show compared to some of the surrounding concerts.

Sound?
The sound quality on this is exceptional. Hard to handle does have some distortion and little funkiness in the channels but so what - this performance by pig is primal caveman energy at it's finest, this is a hot show and wonderful find. Let's not nitpick here it was not that long ago we were listining to 55th gen maxells with dolby.

Nice Sound nice show
For something recorded in 1971 this sure does sound good. I like the clarity on Garcia's vocals. Very Nice.

Geat Show
This is a really crisp SB - definitely worth downloading. Hurts Me Too is killer - Pigpen beltin' it out and Jerry's guitar are really on. Hard to Handle smokes too.
