this day in GD history -- I've been following the December run lately, and December is a big month! Whatever year they were gearing up for new years, getting primed. They're always on, and they always make my day. thank you for the Grateful Dead! Peace!

cumberland news
having linked to this show to hear the cumbeland blues I left it streaming whilst doing other jobs
I must add this is a great show worthy of many listens from a period of transition from the Dead. The quality is much better on this version
seems strange that cumberland blues way not played live for almost seven years?

Best of the two available
Disclaimer: I'm grateful for ALL the shows available here, and to the tapers who preserved them for posterity, but I try to be accurate and consistent in my ratings.
This is the best of the two versions available here of this show. There's some distortion and muddiness, but it's very listenable. There are better sounding '71 shows here, but this one's nothing to sneeze at.
Like someone already said, grab the missing second set from the other source.

Ahh...December 1971!!!
So sweet. That's all I can say. All of December 1971 is so f-ing tight it's ridiculous that a band could be this good. Thank you archives!!!!!!!

Are you sitting down?
The first 5 stars I've given. No Hart and you can tell. They sound like what Weir described as, "a smaller ship, easier to turn." Tight is an understatement. This is the better of the two offerings although it is incomplete. Download this and then fill in the remainder of the 2nd set with the other offering. Run, don't walk. The mix is suberb. God bless this site.
