Rotsaruv is absolutely correct, the playing on Scarlet > Fire is incredible. They played this show (this exact version I think) on the Sirius Satellite Radio GD channel a few days ago.
I'm giving it five stars just for the Scarlet > Fire.
Typical East Coast crowd noise level. Reality check: It's an aud from 1979. It's actually an excellent recording. It sounds like it did if you were there.

I was a newbie in Fall '79, having seen my first show on 9/1 in Rochester. I knew nothing about the Dead except the 6 songs I heard on AOR Rock Stations (Shskedown, Good Lovin, US Blues, FOTD, Truckin & Casey Jones).
But, of the 5 shows I saw that Summer & Fall (9/1, 9/6, 10/24, 10/25 & 10/31), I knew enough to know that this was by far the poorest of the lot. 'Nuff Said.

If your still around Your comments offend.. If you don't like something say it nicer or don't say it at all... People spend loads of time to get this together and there are those who love a great aud tape way better than a SBD.. This is a great aud from, Steve Rolfe, one of the greatest tapers around with the best mics of the era... Rest assured it is exactly what it was like to be there.. Crank it...
Is there more crowd than normal at points? Yes just the way it is some times .. Its the risk you take.
5 stars for the show really 3 for the crowd noise during scarlet but you cant do anything about that as a taper.. You get the best spot for sound and hope there is no yellers or whistlers... So it gets a 4
I bet the last commenter is a screamer and ruins tapes.. Bet he screams when he is home listening ROFL!

This is really not a bad audience recording for '79. Overall I think it sounds a little better than the other source available here. It has a more balanced sound with a little more bass. The show is well played with good energy from the band and enthusiasm from the crowd. If you like audience recordings stream the second set and give it a listen. Like most aud's the sound improves after the first few songs.
