Awesome show overall, great energy level and the sound quality really lets you enjoy it. Not worth comparing to other years, for where the boys were at the time this was a great night.
Fantastic Loser...
For me Sugaree 6/22/74 is still the best... but so many are so good... :)

I first got this tape in 1986. I have yet to here a better Sugaree anywhere and I've tried. I've always wondered if everything after this opener was a bit flat to the audience? Anyone that was there care to comment?

I usually don't rate songs, but I'm listening to the NON AUD version but if I try to type a review it will stop the song and I won't HAvE IT! :)
go get this one:

ANYWAYS, as far as "best 'eveaaaaaa'..."??? I don't know about that, but Jerry must be enjoying his Persian tonight, because this Sugaree is off the F**KING CHARTS!!!!!!!
As far as the rest of the show I can't say much EXCEPT:
1) Best of the three show Alaska run (and the ONLY time the dead played in Alaska!)
and..
2) Go find "Dr Flashback" and OBEY his reviews- this man knows his stuff. Every show he rates as top 10 is a SHOULD HEAR and every show he rates as a top FIVE is a MUST HEAR! Just...check `em out.
I haven't listened to the whole show (YET) but Sugaree (minus the annoying AUD patch in the beginning,) is FOR THE AGES. Aside from that... classic.
Since it's all subjective and I RARELY hand out FIVE STARS (an exception to that rule is Pauley Pavilion (sp?) 1973- a TRUE five star show. This one? 3.8 so I round it to 4.... the Loser is UP THERE (not BEST EVER) but, hey, four stars is an ACCURATE review of this show and that's being slightly generous. I don't dish out 5 stars like candy... it isn't fair to the NEW HEADS trying to discern all this crap.
So four stars it is. A desert island show? Certainly NOT! But worthy of your attention? Definitely! Now go check out the SBD version (unless you're an AUD freak,) but either way the Sugaree picks up nicely between the 9 and 10 minute mark... I don't know, just check this sucka' out!
Peace.

Well holy friggin crap. Slap my arse and call me Cindy Lou, this 2nd set hit me just right. I was already on board, but when Truckin’ hit the next thing I knew I was running around my house screaming at the top of my lungs. Woo-ooo!
If you’re an AUD person do not shy away from this show. Heck, if you’re a deadhead with a pulse, do not shy away from this show. Superb quality. Play it loud!
I’d give the first set 3.5 stars due to entirely subjective reasons—not my ideal setlist by a long shot (Feel Like a Stranger closer…it hurts)—but I’d give the second set 8.7 stars out of 5 so it more than makes up the difference. Five stars overall.
Highlights: A 14-minute Sugaree, Bobby singing “…it’s T for New York City” even though they’re in Anchorage but then makes up for it by saying “…Chicago, New York, Alaska…it’s all on the same street” during Truckin, a 2nd set that just explodes out of the gate (a nice RR, then a monstrous Samson), the chanting or wailing or something during space, the crowd—these are some of the clappingest and most appreciative people I’ve ever heard, and did I mention the 2nd set? It’s like they’re putting on a clinic on how to play like the Grateful Dead.
This one will be downloaded, burned, and distributed to friends, enemies, and total strangers.
ps, if you like this show I also recommend the 6-12-80 AUD that’s on the Archive. The ‘Live Free or Die’ Alaskan energy isn’t there, but it still just smokes. And the storyline (Mt. St. Helens blows during Fire on the Mountain) is about as good as “Alaska High School Auditorium.” By the way, Wikipedia says the auditorium only holds 2,000 people. God I love this band.

Wowee! I think I was somewhere between Hagemeister Island and Afognak for this triad of dates. Hey, "somebody's got to be out there catchin' fish". I'm seniding copies to a couple of likeminded fish morticians.6-19 tape "recordable but not pro", 6-20 and 21, memorable. Thanks, boys. You especially, Dan.

This is my all-time favorite version of Loser. I had the nice SBD that I am sure many of you had, and that is the other source here on the archive. However, I was always annoyed at the break in the middle of Jerry's solo... this version has the whole solo!
Smokin' show all around, and while the Hollywood '71 AUD is still the greatest AUD recording out there, this one is in the top 10.

A very fine aud for the "challenging" conditions of the venue! Played very well but first set not exactly my wish list if you know what I mean, won't get specific and offend anyone that likes some of those songs....not much of a fan of the "country dead", never have been but I've never met ANY head who liked EVERY genre/song, so be it...had "discussions" with early heads over this from time to time... from Samson on out however is just crushing, superbulous! average out to four stars for me I guess, overall out of 100 I'd say probably around a 83...just slip into the low end of a "B"...that's what I love about the dead...there IS SOMETHING for everyone, but everything is NOT for everyone...

Not to mention the five star jamming....Listen to Jerry on Lazy Lighting...He's sounding anything but lazy and twice as fast as lightning. I was just streaming this show and Jerry started going off and so I had to stop what I was doing and write another 5 star review. Why can't all the audience tapes sound like this one?

Just as with 6/20, I would give this show 5 stars for sound quality and 4 for playing. This audience really sparkles. I first downloaded the SBD and it begins with an audience patch in Sugaree. I was disappointed when it spliced in to the SBD and quickly realized my preference for this audience. An execellent document of a solid show in an exotic location.
Thank you Eddie Claridge for taping this and making it possible to be shared out here on the Archive.

what a show! The finest in the run. I remember the high qualty SBD's floating aroung in previous years which were a staple in may collections
But these Audiences are stellar! The sound quality is unreal from these rarely used mics.
Very Crisp, with lots of ambiance and bottom end.
Some of the finest sounding audiences in my collection.

Third night running at the West High (School?) Auditorium....one more saturday nite, in Alaska.
The announcements note that this was "the only concert hall in Anchorage." And to preserve it, they ask the audience not to smoke!
An OK sound for what might have been a challenging recording environment.
