Subject: Good one.

All around good show. Good energy, good performances. Sounds like the guys are having fun. China/Rider is good, but the highlights in my estimation are Estimated and Not Fade Away. Maybe one of the best I've heard. Reminds me of the 2/14/70 NFA which probably is the best.

Subject: The Rainbow Makers.
Subject: The Rainbow Makers.
What a place the Rainbow was, standing a few yards from the band, wonderful sound,no security, and a bunch of Heads eager to see what changes the last 7 years had made to the band.
I had a feeling that it was going to be a good show, but not THIS good. Proto - 81 Dead. Energetic,playful,.. I could go on and on,but you don't want to read what I think - just download this ( and the other Rainbow nights ) and lose yourself in the music.
One strange thing,I remember getting all excited when the boards of these shows became available, and then rather dissapointed when I heard them. For my money, you should get hold of the best audience recordings that you can - they capture the sound of these nights superbly.

Subject: Is that the infamous "Damnit, WIse"?
Subject: Is that the infamous "Damnit, WIse"?
In the notes, it lists D>CD... by Jim WIse. Is this the same "Wise" that's messing with the dude's levels before the start of the Red Rocks show in July '82? ("What are you doing to my levels, man? Don't put 'em up! Damnit, Wise!) HA! If so, I hope he has learned his lesson!
As far as the show goes, it is what I think of as the quintessential audience tape: crowd noise, distance from the stage, etc. I like it and will pull it (or rather, my son will). It's all '81!
One strange thing I noticed was at the start of China Cat, they are still playing Let It Grow, then WHAM! they segue into China. Is it me, or is that about the fastest transition ever?

I'm not even through listening to this show yet, but I simply have to rave about it. This is absolutely primo Grateful Dead. The energy level is amazing. Jerry is just so into it.
The Althea from this show has to be heard to be believed. The Let It Grow is a standout, and if there's a better China/Rider, I'd like to hear it. I'll put this Jack Straw up against any other version.
Check this show out - you won't regret it.
