This is an excellent recording of a great show. I got a recording of it, also, but was a bit too far back, this is far superior, yet captures precisely what I heard. The entire show is sparkling with energy, but the real fun starts with Crazy Fingers and on. Satisfaction was played because we implored the band for one more set, and we all thought we would get it, but alas.

Always a great time at the Ventura shows. Check out the 7/22/84 Loser for another monster version from Ventura.

These two Ventura shows were the first in Ventura & my first shows in California before I moved there a year later. The Dead were stoked to play here on the beach they could see from the stage, nice ocean breeze, palm trees swaying. Perfect weather. This is one of the hotest shows ever. Phil was on fire from the beginning. This is the best Loser ever. Phil is all over it booming. Jerry is wailing. Cassidy, Phil is still stomping & having good old time. Second Set first Crazy Fingers in a long time.
Smoking Satisfaction> Sweet Brokedown Encore. Get this show.

Enough said in the 80's. TO AMAZING. Also its wondeful sound and the show is great.

I really liked this Ventura show all around, but knocked it down a star for quality (just prefer boards, for the most part). Check out Alpine Valley 8/8/82 for equally stunning versions of loser, llr (better than ventura) and a precurser satisfaction/brokedown encore. Garcia's solos are remarkable throughout and John Cippolina from Quicksilver Messenger Service was playing gnarly rhythm guitar along with Bob on most of the second set. Oh, and it is a soundboard.
The first night of this Alpine stint was a Dick's Picks, not currently available on the archive. Fare you well . . .

Great performance.

we flipped when they started playing Crazy Fingers...people were just laughing and hugging each other....it was hard to believe. I think we thought '76 tunes were history. Little did we know.

then we had break and then on to Tempe - they played Fingers again...I remember some people griping that it took away from the specialness of Ventura. whatever.

Subject: Encore
It appeared the boys wanted to do something more than the standard Brokedown encore at the end of a multi show run in a venue.

Bobby had an "I just had an idea" look and walked over to Jerry and then we got a Satisfaction.

During Brokedown a lone seagull flew right in front of the stage as the band sang "All the birds that were singin have flown except you alone"

This is a nice front of the board audience from the days before there was an official taping section.
