i remember it being one of the best openers i ever heard, from '72 forward. going to listen now and see if i was right. been a long time.
can't really rate it yet, but at the time, i'd give it a 4-5

Almost didn't make it to the show. My friend (and my ride) cancelled at the last minute and my dad had to drive me in from Long Island. Just as I got in the lights went down and the intro and PITB started. So magical being there with 20,000 of my best friends.

This is another great east coast fall '82 show. The Playin>Crazy Fingers opener is awesome, and the rest of the show just flows from there...

This recording is such a treat! Outstanding sound, Phil just thunders through my sub-woofer. These were fantastic shows, SO New York. Commuted in on the Subway from Brooklyn, which made for a fantastic ride back after the show (excellent light show). Playin is just fantastic, and what a phenomenal opener, into a sweet Crazy Fingers.
Other show notes:
That's John Scher, the promoter, doing his best to copy Bill Grahams' introduction line (again, re: 9-2-77). There was a camera crew onstage for Playin', but I have never seen any footage anywhere. $13.50.

In this Aud, when they start Big River in this blazing opening sequence, you can hear a guy say amazing. That pretty much sums this show up. I can't think of another show that opens with this much energy.

this is a great show.set list speaks for itself.throwin stones and touch of grey in their embryonic stages.nice to hear the subtle differences in those songs (they hadn't quite worked out the jams yet) ,as well as west l.a.fade away(which has the since dropped here's what ginger said verse).drums are a little trashy sounding, but overall an excellent soundboard.the band plays well and the good lovin refrain is an all timer.bobby's rap on it is a classic along with funky organ riffs from brent.the good lovin alone makes this a must listen

That will always be the best Touch of Grey.
I'm basing 5 on that one song alone.

My first GD show, thou I had already seen 2 JGB shows prior to this. Great show !! High Time, Playing, and West L.A. are very nice. Touch of Grey at the time thou, we called it "We will Survive" - was alot more enjoyable and soulfull compared to 6 years later when it had commercial success. Listen to the words carefully.

This is an awesome show, in particular the opener, playing is smoking. Jerry is just ripping leads. Highly suggest, I prefer the audience for more ambiance but the sbd is great if you want a cleaner sound.
