Considering many think the fact that Jerry was in decline during the summer of 86 he seems so on at these 3 shows. Maybe it's the fact that the home state always kept him well. I love the sound here. It is top notch.
They are all playful and sound rite on the money.

I wanted to listen to Oade's sound since he was one of the earliest digital pioneers. Nice overall recording of an above average concert. 1986 is a mixed bag, however.

Thanks to Oade for ecoeding this amazing show. The quality of the recording is as good as it get for the person looking for that "one!"tape. THe show is played fantastic! the band is Hot! Some of Weir's best playin" in 85' and this night is no exception. Jerry even gives him props after some of his better slide work in CC Ryder. The between audience and soundboard recording really are highlighted in this rec.the bands care or sound & its arragement are shown.

This show, or version of FOTM, is the reason I got into the Dead. I had never heard of "the Dead" my first 16yrs of life, and then a kid w/ an older brother who was a Head turned me onto them with this show(set 2), which became my first bootleg in '86. I went on to catch them well over 100x, and relocated from the Chicago area, to attend the Univ of Oregon, just so I could be a little closer to where they called home. I'm 35 now, and no longer do lots of things I did back then, but my love for the music remains. Thank you!

I love these recordings. They truly capture the "experience" of being at a GD show. This show may not look "special" from the set list but the China Cat/Rider is outstanding and the version of "The Other One" is one of the best of the year....why? This was during the time Bob found it necessary to eliminate Phil's intro and do a vocal intro instead. Well, the drummer's didn't even get a break for this one as the band, rather than "Space" decided to jam on "The Other One" instead.
One thing that no reviewer has mentioned yet was the playfulness for the band at this run of shows. This night, Jerry and Phil harrass Bob before "Loser" and then the banter before the 2nd set begins is absolutely hilarious. Even when the verse "My Love is Bigger than a Cadillac" is sung during "Not Fade Away", Both Bob AND Jerry held hands out wide......Also, as one reviewer noted, there was something very clear and clean going around which made the shows that much more memorable......and oh yeah, the crowd holds the "Not Fade Away" chant in perfect tempo all the way for the band to rejoin for the encore. A really nice evening of music that left the Greek Theater buzzing again.
