Same here
Catfish, I agree with you 100%. My 1st show was 9/12/82 Lakeland, Fl and as far as I'm concerned it was one of the best shows ever! Met a guy in Tampa who had an extra ticket. Dosed and never stopped dancing! That guy became a very good friend who I still keep in touch with.

Just another review?
Always listen to the Dead on the Archive. Read some of the reviews too. Seems like there an inordinate amount of experts doing the reviews. I am far from being an expert---just know this was my first show and that I had not even planned on being there. Dylan played the Friday night before w/Petty and that's why I drove to Wisconsin from Indiana. The rest of my buddies were in my car and only goin' to the Dead shows. The parking lot surely transformed itself into something of a carnival atmosphere while the Dylan show was goin on and the only way they got me to go inside for the Grateful Dead that Saturday afternoon was by dosing me and buying me a lawn ticket for I believe a phenomenal $10. I was 19 and it changed my life forever and was the first of many shows and many travels to get to a show. Don't give a damn 'bout "recording quality" this or somebody in the band "messed up" that sorta stuff. This one gets 5 stars from me, and will probably be my one and only review too. I'm too much of a softie and I could never bring myself to comment on the negative after every show. Instead, I always would counter with "Well, what about when they played..." or "wasn't it cool when they..." etc, etc.

pretty good for 1986
1986...not exactly known as one of the Dead's better years, but I must say they do a nice job on this one. Very tight! The quality of this recording is not great, though. I enjoyed the Baby Blue at the end, and the Uncle John's Band, but little else really smoked.
3.5 stars rounded up because hey, it's 1986

It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
I'll be damned if I've ever been able to find a weak performance of this song, and that certainly holds true here. The Grateful Dead had a remarkable ability to turn each song at their shows into an individual statement, as if every selection for the evening was a single piece of a much fuller story. With that came an enormous commitment to the message that each one of those parts contributed. And finally, with this track in particular, was the incalculably huge presence of Jerry and his unique gift for the theatrical, the potential to realize the dramatic impact within all of the songs. Interpret "Forget about the dead you left, they will not follow you" however you wish-the fact is that no one in the realm of musical performance has ever or will ever be able to surpass the emotional depth that he and they could touch within the hearts of their audience.

This Row Jimmy
This "Row Jimmy" has to be the best I'd ever seen and heard. I remember it being extremely moving and melancholy, almost overpowering, with the sun streaming through the trees at E. Troy. Listen to how beautiful Jerry's guitar solos are. I remember the remainder of the '86 Alpine shows were cool.

CASSETTE
in the lineage the "?" has got to be cassette... the sound is not very friendly to the ears. but any alpine sbd is worth a spin... i would try the aud first though.
