Some pretty bad quality on this Aud. It was a good tape at one time, but there is swirling and bleeding through from ?. I have a better one but no way to upload. The SBD does not capture the good sound from the quads in the room. 4* for show not this recording.
If I am not mistaken, this is the first quadraphonic indoor show. They used the rear speakers to amazing effect, swirling the sound around in some vicious space/vortex. Even to open the show! Coming out of the space into Truckin' was truly some of the loudest weirdness to date while Healy worked out the bugs.
The second set is a real sleeper from a set list perspective, and I find myself listening to it over and over despite the line-up, which while not bad is not gripping on paper. Well, just take a listen. It smokes. Quality of recording here is not top notch but well worth a listen to hear the amazing 2nd set. Better copies did circulate. Hint - hint.
We flew in on a Gooney Bird express. Not particularly a big scene. Got into the show quite early. The mellow nature of things really was impressive. It was like a giant cocktail party. Not sure I remember any other show where they served mixed drinks. People were hanging out everywhere with plastic stemware in true Southern style and comfort.

The last show I had seen was in 1977. Had seen a lot of shows though. Tried ordering from GD tickets, got 4 great tickets cheap.
During Wharf Rat I realized I was watching the best band in modern history... Name your category...
This recording could be a lot better, but seems to get a lot cleaner and better after the first few songs. Since it is a 2.5 at first and a 4.7 by the end I gotta give this one a 5 on content and performance, but only a 3.9 on quality.
What I would give for a better version or SBD version of this show!

The only thing I remember from this show is the Looks Like Rain. I remember it seemed to go on forever...at first a little drizzle...then building..building until a full storm was let loose. I always loved that song after this show...It was intense!

Thanks to those who have shared their recordings of this show. This show marked the bands' return to the Omni, which was an important spring stop up to the end. This is a very special show. The energy in the room that night was tremendous. I recently dusted off my recording of the show, and it took me right back. I will convert from DAT ASAP. I was lucky enough to draw front center of the taper's section that night. My setup was a bit unusual by conventional standards, but listening to it now, I realized that I captured, mostly by luck , the feel of the hall that night. This show should be considered for a vault release. It is that good. All the tracks on this one are good. The Queen Jane is great. The 1/2 step smokes. Powerful Looks. If there's a better Black Muddy, I'd love to hear it! Loser is great. The Monk chant at the start was a nice touch too.
Peace,
Johnny B.

So far I've only listened to a couple of songs to get a feel for the show. The recording is very good for an audience tape.
Right before they drop the bomb at the end of Truckin, Jerry hits this incredibly high note, sliding off the fret board to get there. Might not make this a great show but it's one of those little gems that makes you smile when your driving home that night.
