Great show
Saw a whole bunch of dead shows starting with Richmond 83 but if I had to pick a favorite this would be it. So loose and rocking. Good stuff....dig it. Hampton was such a cool place to see shows.

1st thin man..
this show is pretty sweet!its got twists everywhere...breaking out thin man>uncle>to lay me down is down right sick. Jerry sings lay me down with great
emotion.this is a great example of stellar music in the LATE 80`s,go figure, some say its not possible,i don`t know what they hear, but don`t miss this
one.it`s nice!

Trannyman--all things must pass...........
The Archive is NOT GONE!!! You just cannot download soundboard copies of shows. That is far from being GONE!! I listen to and appreciate the Archive every day....Streaming these shows and downloading respectable audience recordings is such a gift..A GIFT!!!! If you choose to live and appreciate the present moment (the NOW)--you would respect and appreciate what we have here. Thank you to all who upload to this site and to those who offer us the beautiful option of enjoying the Dead's huge body of live work like many of us never could before. And thanks for all the great tales from the many Deadheads in the reviews. Someone puts time and $$ into this resource--it did not just fall from the sky.....lets be Grateful Fans as we enjoy our Grateful Dead!!!

in retrospect this show has several real sweet nuances (1st Thin Man; 1st To Lay Me Down in a dog's age; Space->So What to start the 2nd set).
the performance was was a rock solid 4.0 - 4.5 stars, this is a real fine recording.

All 3 Nights Were Rippin'
who said they were sloppy this night? to each his own, i guess...
1st 'thin man,' the 'so what' jam... cumberland, let it grow... i was fortunate enough to catch all three nights of this run... all of spring '88 was kickass, Weir's guitar is nice and loud and crispy... everyone's vocals are up to snuff...

My first show, and what a show it was !
This was my 1st Dead show. I was 15 years old and rode the 200+ miles to Hampton with four friends and no sooner than we got into Hampton the car got wrecked. As we were standing on the side of the road luck shined upon us and there was a friend from home who's truck we hopped in the back of. Then to the campground and three nights of the Dead of which I had the ticket for the middle night. Needless to say the three beer-drenched days and nights were amazing to my eyes.....set the stage for a band I was ultimately fall deeply in love with for the rest of my life. This was the beginning. Although I remember thinking I had seen a great cocnert, it wasn't until years later that I had the ability and appreciation for the Dead, and this show, that I have today. I was just a punk kid at the time and only knew one or two songs, Scarlet/Fire not being among them. I remember thinking wow, that was a great song they played in the second half of the show.... Now I fully realize what an incredible Fire it really was ! And this was the only time I ever heard the Dead play Scarlet/Fire. Out of the 30+ shows I saw over the next 7 years I never got that lucky again ! Well, at least the one I did see was this one ! This show means something special to me, as it introduced me to the Dead and I gotta give the high marks for that alone, not to mention the power of this show and the crowd....classic Grateful Dead !

GD's version review
I thought it was interesting that this became one of the download series. The 1st two songs are matrix source and then it switches to pure SBD. At any rate, the official version available for sale/download is worth the $19, especially now that archive's is gone. It is amazing sounding.
As far as the show, I thought this one was the sloppiest of the three nights, but still memorable. Fire is good and I like the jam during space into GDTRFB. Pretty darn cool.

WOW
Unlike the last poster, I think this is a GREAT download. I consider it a gem from the later part of their career. Jerry sounds extremely strong, his guitar is quick and crisp, his vocals loud and full of feeling. It just sounds like the whole band puts it together that night. Fire on the Mountain is incredible, IMHO. If you like collecting shows, and are lacking in the late 80's on (like I am), take this one!!!

If you don't already have this, download now! This is one of those matrix mixes that I love. I personally dig these matrix mixes more then many straight out of the board mixes. Its the closest thing to being there. Enjoy!

Good show....
I made a notation in my book after the show that this version of Fire was LETHAL. This will be only the second time I have heard it. Thanks to all responsible.

real fun
this was a nice show. opening with iko got everyone pumped for a high energy show. The first thin man was a cool treat that has to be heard. too bad it was only done twice. Cumberland is always welcome in my book. When they started in on the all too rare to lay me down the atmosphere was electric! as for the set2 the only downer for me was miracle but besides that a solid and adventurous set. These shows were my first as a married guy and were one week after my honeymoon. What a great time!

trippy to say the least
I was at this show and also got lost in transit. Even though the Days Inn was accross the street it was like going through a maze getting back. Anyhow, there has been speculation about the Hampton crowds. Maybe it's the water, I don't know, but they were always ready and the band fed off it. One only has to listen to the first "HEY NOW" by the crowd to realize the intesity. They shot back at Jerry with the quickness of a rattlesnake. What a great show. I'm sure it was a highlight for the band as well. BTW, the second set is unbelievable. I think a cannon goes off during Fire. Just listen.
