My Last and Favorite Show
A friend and I had followed the Dead for several years and this was the last show we shared. His leg was broken at the time and they let "Handicapped" in early. He jumped on my back and we ran to center stage. We were right in front of Bobby and Gar for the whole miraculous show. When Graham came down from the ceiling as the Chicken to touch the Egg that was slowly moving through the audience for the midnight countdown, his foot touched the Egg right at midnight (which came first?). The Egg burst open and carnations of Red and White (no blue suede shoes) flew forth delivered by the children of the New Year. What a beautiful way to remember Jerry and Phil, Mickey and Booby, Bill and Brent. Thanks for bringing back the vibration with this recording. It takes me right back.
