I was at this show and while it did have several hightlights it never really took off. Unfortunately this was typical of many 1993 shows. The Iko with Barney was a great April Fools Day stunt and well played to boot, but the remainder of the 2nd set is disappointing. Certainly not the worst show but there are some dull spots (this means you Wave to the Wind).
BTW- Rain was played 7 times in 1993, 4/1, 5/25, 6/19, 8/26, 9/16, 9/26, 12/8, it was also played a couple times after 93.

They definatly played it more than twice. I saw the Rain here and the best ever at Jerry's comeback show in Denver 12-2-92 they played it a bunch of times after this also. A fun show and actually some decent playing here.

the rain, only the second and last the band played, was huge and revitalized my love for the song. and, indeed, what a rain it was outside.
when barney came out, the crowd just stood goggle-eyed. i swear i heard a guy say, "dude, remember that purple dinosaur you said i just did not see at hampton? it's back, man, it's back!"

Subject: Best show of that run
Saw four of the five shows at this Nassau run and this was IMO the best of the bunch. First set highlight was actually the smoking Minglewood. Definitely rare to have this number stand out, but there you go. Also loved hearing some of the new numbers they broke out on that spring '93 tour, with the first set containing Eternity and ending with an upbeat Liberty. All the new numbers gave that tour a fresh feeling that seemed to have been missing for a while. 1993 tends to get slagged for being a poor year for the band, but I am one who heartily disagrees and saw a dozen shows that year.
As a personal note, you can imagine the kind of thoughts I was having during They Love Each Other after having run into the girl I had a crush on in ninth grade -- an unrequited love who I had to unceremoniously abandon before things ever really got started to enter a private school. I bumped into her totally at random at Penn Station on the way to the show. Hadn't seen her in about nine years, and now she was 23, working for a Wall Street investment bank, and looked better than ever! Whoah! When she asked me where I was headed, I said the Dead show at Nassau, and could you believe it? SHE WAS TOO! Ended up meeting up with her outside the venue for a beer (unfortunately in the SUV of her BOYFRIEND at the time...grrrrr), but that random encounter had my head spinning the whole rest of the evening!!
The Barney thing during Iko to start the second set had everyone else's heads spinning as well. Phil's kids, who were very young at the time, were right there on the side of the stage dancing around. It was too cute! And now here I sit writing this review more than 13 years later, with four kids 9 and younger of my own -- and still thinking about that girl I first fell in love with. Ahhh, the memories that band created for me...
BTW haven't listened to this show in many years since my very large tape collection is stashed away back home, so thanks to Archive.org for giving me a chance to relive the memories!

This was a great show. Looking back on life, the Dead provided me with some of the best memories of my youth, this night included. Yes, barney was on stage, but it wasn't Phil. This came right from his lips when I was lucky enough to chat with him several years later. The best was the Rain encore. I guess it was a weather report, as we left the show into a nice soaking rain. There were two young kids infront of me and my friend as we walked through the parking lot, one said to the other "I wish the whole world could be like this" Ain't that the shit. Looking forward to a Bobby show next week a few miles from home and I was doing some reminesing. Getting ready for my spring time dose. Things have changed. The scene seemes a little mean, espically those kids with the sideways hats. Me, I'm married with young kids and left the booze and drugs behind for some young kid that wants to flirt with death. But the music is stronger than ever. Get back truckin on. Crazy Bill Sweeney 3 stars for show quality 10 for the memories

this was the most memorable feature of this show - we had backstage passes and howled when we saw that and he was whacking the strings during this... I truthfully do not remember a whole lot apart from that but that alone made it worth seeing
