got to this ranch at 3p for a 9:45p show. lots of hanging out, throwing the football around, etc...a hackeysack game even broke out. unofficial opening act was jimmy strumming his guitar outside for a couple of hours while the guys played cards. he burned through about 6 tom petty songs at one point just before they had to take the stage (even the losers, I need to know, here comes my girl, american girl, etc). show itself was interesting. people were there to support a charity (i.e., NOT to see the gourds), but the guys put on a good one anyway. song of the night was steeple. moment of the night was loni anderson walking up to the stage to shake hands with kev and jimmy. she left about a song later. I thought that was nice of her. venus flytrap was there, too. it was just that kind of night.

Subject: one more thing...
track listing is off by one all the way through. sorry about that. and b/c of the venue and the mic placement, the show has a kind of far away sound (certainly when you compare it to the sharpsburg show the very next day). so, yes, I'm giving my own recording a lame 3 stars...but I will say that after you listen for a few minutes and your ears adjust, you won't even realize that it's not so great. just give it a chance.
