Subject: Not original, and mediocre jamming.
The sound is pretty good, and you can hear each instrument well.
I don't know what the hype is about with these guys. They sound like a typical jamband. The songs are really funky, so I guess that is the draw. Still, the jams are lacking, and there is no attempt to be really creative. The vocals are fairly bad, but so are alot of these kinds of bands. There is some potential here, but if they keep playing it safe, will just be another okay band.
This is obviously not a pure show. The actual show was much longer and this is only selections. There are
also a number of audio flaws with the recording. There are times in Mobile and Savannah where the recording
drops down to "solo" a channel.. there is nothing I can do to fix this really without taking liberties with
the music. What I have fixed: A simple EQ in Sound Forge to drop the bass from what was distorting my
system to something reasonable and a boost in the low/mid mids to bring out some low mixed instruments. I
also went through and fixed some hiccups (places where the tracks didn't line up with the songs and even
better yet places where a song would start then silence the the song would start again. This final product
sound more like it was a real set contiguous.
That all being said given the multitrack line source of the recording the sound quality is excellent and
you can judge Kevin's mix for yourself.. (I'm overly picky sometimes but some of the vocals and keys are
undermixed in my opinion) anyway.. enjoy! This is a great example of the Johnson. More to come down the
road.. Kevin will be doing these multitracks off and on until the Johnson goes into the studio this fall.
