Good Health Practices, Part I (1953)

The makers of Soapy the Germ Fighter are back to teach other things to keep us healthy. Young Jim and Judy learn about proper eating, keeping clean, proper rest and good toilet habits. The enthusiastic narrator reminds us not to be bashful or silly about bathroom habits and that we should go whenever we feel like it.

Oh man, this film is BEGGING for an MST3K treatment.

At least the announcer isn't so pushy like the one in 'Keeping clean and neat' -

Subject: Orphaned Exhaust Pipes
Strange tale of two children that appear to live without parents most of the time. Surely they need to beware of Mr Soapy, the pedophilic bar of giant soap! But Jim and Judy are happy campers, for a clean colon is a happy colon. Little do Jim and Judy know, but their butt is exactly the same as the tailpipe of an early 50s Cadillac! Nothing like a slug of high test and quart of Pennzoil to keep the 'ole exhaust pipes clean and regular. Ask mom, she knows, and keeps a tight schedule of when it's permissable to take a dump in their happy home. That's right kids, listen to mom and keep the ole' poop chute clean and happy, or else Mr Soapy will have to come and take care of it for you!

Jim and Judy live, oh why donÂt I say it, in a rather UNUSUAL household. Mom keeps a tight rein on the kids, with daily checkups on how clean they are, and scheduling, uh, their bathroom breaks too. But the kids donÂt mind of course, they KNOW that being clean inside and out makes them happy inside yesiree!
While being clean, uh, outside is a subject weÂve seen a lot of in the archives, proper washroom etiquette has always been elusive. So this was actually quite a surprise and quite funny to watch. Never knew I had to schedule WHEN I had to go to the washroom Once after breakfast and once after dinner! Best scene: Mom tells Judy itÂs her time to go to the washroom now. YIKES!

Brilliant film that should have been nominated for
an Academy Award. Great close-ups of Cadillac fan belts and plate of toast. Riveting "nap on beach" scene.

LESSON: It's OK to make doody in front of strangers
as long as you wash your hands afterwards.
