Why should they retire it? Zac didn't write it and I wouldn't say it "showcases" the mandolin whatsoever. It's a great tune and they should continue to play it regularly!

I see that there is talk of retiring Amanda Lynn. Well, I love that tune and think it would be a shame to never see them play it live again.
So here's a link to an Amanda Lynn Video without Zach that we shot at the MoBoogie Loft around new years. I think it's pretty good, but you judge for yourself.
Just make sure you adjust the Quality of the Video to High Quality.

They def should. The entire song is about the instrument that is no longer in the band and show cases that instrument. It makes no sense to keep playing it and its just sad to hear it

Thank you for providing this download. This is a historic recording. They sound good. Zach leaving is a big change for Hot Buttered Rum and fans, but hey, let's just get used to it--and support them 100%. HBR is all about positive energy and they "spread it" through their uplifting stlye of progresssive bluegrass music. But, the big picture is that even though they have been jammin for some years now, they are still in an infancy stage as a band and so maybe change is good. Whatever changes are to come down the road, I trust they will still engage those that love them so much, and live-music fans in general. Their good vibe and energy seems to just get better!! And this talk about "retiring" songs? Music is meant to be played--just ask Bobby and Phil about that. Anyway, I WILL miss you, Zach. Geoff

It seems that the beat in the first two songs was faster than it should be. Everything fell into place on New Speedway Boogie. It seems the cover songs work well with the drums, which is good because there was a high amount of covers in this show. I like the faster brit-rock sound of Be Kind Boys. The first set closed out with good energy.
Desert Rat had a pushed tempo also. Of course Six Weeks was beautifully arresting and the transition to Summertime Gal is well-done. I have mixed feelings about the song itself. It was great, but it wasn't the Butter that I have known.
It's all good until Amanda Lynn. It doesn't work without a mandolin. It was difficult to listen to.
Banjo Rock & Roll was done with drums on 2008-10-10- good times. All the snapping in What To Do was fun. Bit by Bit seems pushed, like all the other original songs.
Over all, a high-energy show with many fun moments. I miss Zac, certainly. HBR still has the intangible synergy, it's just different now.

This was the first time I'd seen HRB live, and the atmosphere at this show was incredible! Everyone was into it, and you could tell HBR was having a blast on stage. I don't think there was any part of this show I didn't enjoy. Hopefully the experience of being there can be effectively conveyed through the recording. I'll definitely make any attempt to catch these guys again as soon as I can.
