Subject: Re: Clifford - Contains author’s suppositions
Researchers, use caution! Much transcription of records is contained in this volume, a good thing, but also contains incorrect assumptions about John Clifford of Salem and Lynn (c. 1630-1698) that have caused researchers to confuse him with a totally different person of the same name, of Salisbury MA and then Hampton NH but who was born circa 1614and died Oct 1694. The confusion seems to arise mostly because of the names, but also because the author read records that both persons married an Elizabeth. The last name of the woman who married John of Salem is unknown. The maiden name of the wife of John of Hampton was Richardson. The author mistakenly attributes the marriage of Elizabeth Richardson to John Clifford of Salem. This has caused much genealogical confusion.
