Subject: Background info - not a review
I was the taper of this show. A few details - I hadn't planned on recording this concert. I'd done an interview with Hank III the previous night in Lexington. During the interview I showed him the full-page ad in Rolling Stone for the Rock The Rackhouse concert and he was pretty amped about it - I guess he was under the assumption that it was just going to be another club show.

Anyhow, the next night in Louisville I was going to continue the interview but it things happen and it had to be cancelled.

While this show was open to the public, it was essentially a concert for Jim Beam business partners and shareholders. The backstage area was set up with loads of food and alcohol, so I didn't want my drink tickets to go to waste (courtesy of a generous Jim Beam PR rep). After hanging out with the guys from Filter and copious amounts of white label Beam, I went into the arena and put my recording equipment to use.

There IS a lot of reverb on this recording. Broadbent Arena is used more for horse & cattle auctions than live music.

Recorded with a Sony minidisc recorder and a Shure SM-55 mic.

Not one of my best recordings - I prefer tapping into the soundboard like some other III shows I've done - but it ain't bad.

Note: after listening to these files, it's not quite as "clean" as my master version. Not sure what generation this download is, but there's definitely been some compression along the line.

taper must be quite far back in the arena.
