IN THE CITYSTEVE GOTTLIEB - The In The City 2005 Urban Music Summit Keynote (October 1, 2005)

The IN THE CITY 2005 Urban Music Summit Keynote by Steve Gottlieb.

Steve Gottlieb, visionary force behind TVT Records - the largest independently owned and freestanding record label in the United States, discards his prepared keynote address, storms the stage and takes on his old pals Ted Cohen, Tom Silverman and Bob Leftsetz in one of the highlights of In The City 2005.

about Steve Gottlieb

Steve Gottlieb is the entrepreneurial mind and visionary force behind TVT Records, the largest independentlty owned and freestanding record label in the United States and a pioneer in digital music delivery. Gottlieb, who founded TVT Records at the age of 28, opted not to use his law degrees on Wall Street, but instead began creating the platform for what today is an industry-leading business.

Combining legal acumen, a passion for pop culture and an ability to unravel years of red tape. Gottlieb assembled America's best loved TV show themes in the wildly successful Television's Greatest Hits album series. The series success - in the face of industry pundits who said it couldn't be done - provided him with the capital and confidence to launch TVT as a full-fledged independent record label.

In digital music Steve Gottlieb's forward-thinking has allowed TVT to lead the industry, being the first significant label to offer its entire catalogue of music for downloading online and the first independent label to take a stand against online piracy. his leadership and vision in the digital music explosion has resulted in Gottlieb holding seats on the board of directors of MusicMatch and the advisory board of Napster. On April 3, 2001

alongside such industry luminaries as Ken Barry and Dick Parsons, Gottlieb addressed the Senate Judiciary Committee at a hearing on digital music legislation.

Today, he is credited with a keen sense of street marketing - cultivating a campaign that catapulted cult musician Trent reznor into a global sensation with multi-platinum sales for his one-time cult band, Nine Inch Nails.

At a time when the music industry is experiencing an "indie explosion" with independent labels enjoying a collective number two market share

overall, Steve Gottlieb's TVT Records leads the pack. According to Billboard and Soundscan TVT is the #1 independent record label for the last four years.

about In The City

In The City is the UKs international music convention & Europe's largest city-based music festival

IN THE CITY is the brain child of Yvette Livesey who, along with her partner, Anthony Wilson (aka Tony Wilson) of Factory Records and 24 Hour Party People fame, decided to setup an annual event where music industry professionals could meet up for a few days to discuss, debate and argue about what's right and what's wrong in the Music Industry.

Since it's inagural event in 1992 - In The City has grown into a key International Music Convention and Showcase event attracting bands, artists, musicians and industry professionals from 4 continents, for 4 days and 4 nights which is In The City.
