Subject: Promising band, decent show
I've been anxiously awaiting some new Izabella on Archive... I can't say I'm not a little disappointed. IMHO there isn't much worth listening to here, but I'll be hanging on to it bc. I know these guys are bound for bigger and better things. I've been seeing Sean since '99 in Davis. I was WAY stoked on Home At Last--I don't think they always made for a great bar band, but boy were they hot at festies and bigger clubs. Izabella on the other hand sounds like an AMAZING bar band, but I have a hard time hearing a real voice, a real identity.
I've never seen so much talent on one stage, but there's more to it than that. Given that Izabella is supposed to be a replacement for one of my favorite local bands of all time, I kind of expected something more dazzling. To me, this recording just sounds chaotic and confusing. Way too much going on, too many different styles of music, too many different tones on the instruments. It's just too much. Without something to bring it all together, it just doesn't make for good listening. I will say however, that I'm sure I would have enjoyed the show had I been there.
-The first song of Set 1 ("Heads Up") was lost due to recording error.
