Hallam was the son of Alfred, Lord Tennyson. He was named after Alfred's closest friend, Albert Hallam, the promising poet (and his sister's fiancé), who died of a brain hemmorage at the age of 22. Hallam Tennyson later became the second Governor-General of Australia.
