Subject: Edersheim’s Life of Jesus and the Time he lived in
Subject: Edersheim’s Life of Jesus and the Time he lived in
Edersheim’s work stands in contrast to the work of the advent of the Messiah as understood by Blackstone who wrote on the return of Christ [in Jesus is Coming – available here at :
http://www.archive.org/details/JesusIsComing-raptureByWilliamW.e.b.Blackstone
] , But the work by Blackstone was accessible and included tons of references of scripture within the text. Edersheim takes a more scholarly approach, though both appear to have shared much in common, from the religious frame of reference.
Edersheim’s work was also a welcome rebuttal to some of the foolish biographies of Jesus as done by some of the [pretending] textual critics of the 1800s, until refuted by Edersheim, R.A. Anderson, and the scholarship of Oxford Professors Rawlinson and Sayce.
The more detailed analysis of the Hebrew Scriptures was done by C.D. Ginsburg in his massive but excellent work on the Massoretico (masoretico) Critical Edition(s) of the Old Testament and the Historic Manuscripts.
His work is available here at:
Volume # 1:
http://www.archive.org/details/IntroductionToTheMasoretico-criticalEditionOfTheHebrewBible01
Volume # 2:

Edersheim’s contributions to Old Testament scholarship was a strong encouragement to those seeking exegetical truth as well as archeological accuracy.
