King of Jazz trailer 1930
I would hope the distorted sound can be fixed. The film is due for a Blu Ray/DVD release after June 2016 and a book is being prepared on this famous film. See Nitrate Diva for details.

Wonderful!
I wish America cared more about jazz and the musical history of that era. I would love to have the entire movie but it is locked in a vault somewhere more than likely. I grew up with Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Chopin, Duke Ellington and other great music being played in my home growing up. I love Paul Whiteman as well and consider him to be American Musical Royalty along with the Duke, Billy Strayhorn and many others. Thanks for uploading this gem!

King Of Jazz IS amazing, watch it if you can.
I have this on VHS tape, and it's nothing short of spectacular. Great scenes with Paul Whiteman's Rhythm Boys (Bing Crosby's first group) as well as Walter Lantz's very first cartoon. It's a darn shame that no one has transferred this to DVD. I have no idea who holds the rights to this gem, but I think I'll contact the UCLA film archive, and maybe Robert Osbourne (TCM) and see what they tell me. Sure, it's old and funny looking to some, but it's a beautiful piece of history just languishing in neglect. Paul Whiteman may not have been the real king of jazz, but he was a true genius.

Now THATS a trailer!
Simply AMAZING trailer for a movie called the King Of Jazz which looks nothing short of amazing thanks to this incredible trailer. This film looks to be on 2 strip Technicolor, so it looks a tad strange, and the music is sort of odd, even though theyre supposed to be Song Hits. But the visuals and art-deco is nothing short of ga-ga. As a matter of fact, after this was over, I sort of wondered whether they left the stage at all, or did nothing but over the top production numbers for the length of the film. Irregardless, I MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

Paul Whiteman's - "the King of JAZZ!"
Excellent 1930, Universal two strip TechniColor presentation of America's greatest band leader of that era: Paul Whiteman-"the King of Jazz." Film is dedicated to the era of Jazz with special stage numbers - of song, dance and musical skits - and including a cartoon characterizing Paul as a big game hunter in the wilds of Africa.
The film's final BIG FINALE is the on-screen recorded premiere arrangement of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" - in which Gershwin himself was asked by Whiteman to compose this piece back in 1924 and premiered by Gershwin at the piano and Whiteman leading his orchestra.
One must see this whole film to really appreciate the history of Jazz in America.
