Reviewer:gratisvibes.com - - August 28, 2006 Subject: We Can Break with 8 Bit Too! [As Reviewed on Gratisvibes.com] This album is literally what its album title says - 8 Bit Breakcore. Take 8 Bit music, throw in some breakbeat, youâve got yourself 8-bit breakcore. This is my first exposure to 8 bit breakcore, so far most of the 8 bit music Iâve heard of emphasized using only 8-bit synthesizers for all the tracks, thus we would normally get some kind of drum sounds that we usually heard from those 8-bit videogames which are not very pleasant to listen to.
The fact that this album replaces the drum sounds with a more maturely synthesized drum sounds but leaves all other instruments in its original 8-bit state makes it quite a fresh album to listen to. In fact, I would say with this, it has also extended the albumâs replayability as compared to most 8-bit albums.
Favourite tracks: Leaguewalker - The 8-bit sound in this track isnât exactly as impressive and has been reduced to function almost merely as pad, playing single notes held for 16 bars. What makes me dig this track is its breaks, the breakdown, and ironically the simplistic 8-bit sound.
Quality Frown Plow - This track features the best in the 8-bit melody line and the breakbeat. Simply amazing.
Your Blinded Obsession - More impressive breaks. Youâve got to listen to believe it.
