Pillsbury describes Mrs. Turner, the owner of the place where he is staying. He tells May that Dr. Joseph Hutton disapproved of a meeting that Pillsbury called. He criticizes Dr. Hutton's sons and the Unitarian Society in Manchester. He describes his efforts to counteract the influence of Julia Griffiths and discusses the trouble he is having with Cuthbert Young. Pillsbury says that he plans to lecture in Southampton. He refers to Florence Nightingale and inquires as to when the Speaker of the House is elected by Congress. Pillsbury objects to William Lloyd Garrison's employment of Southerners as lecturers and asks if Harriet Beecher Stowe contributed anything to these lectures
