Holograph, signed
Augustus Hesse requests Deborah Weston to secure a certificate from Mr. Humphry, the selectman of "my town" [Weymouth, Mass.], so that Hesse can have a furlough of a few days. Hesse writes: "I am content still I wish be mor[e] Content if I had bid you all---my Wife & Child good bye---We are here all in our Battery old Soldiers." If any of the Weston family should come to the camp, Augustus Hesse would make it as comfortable as he could. He sends a message to his wife, Almira, and "Kiss my little darling for me." It will take a month to get through all the manoeuvres which they have to learn in the artillery service
Includes an envelope with the delivery address: Mrs. Almira Hesse, Care of Miss D. Weston, Weymouth Landing, Mass. The envelope has the image of a U.S. war flag
