Hunt reports that Charles C. Burleigh remains alive and conscious, despite having sustained a fractured skull. Hunt states that Burleigh's physician does not think an operation to be necessary, but remains anxious concerning the state of Burleigh's injuries. Hunt himself adds that he hopes that Burleigh's habits (abstention from alcohol and tobacco) will speed his recovery, and notes the arrival of Burleigh's brother George, and his son Edward, the previous afternoon
