The illness of his wife has prevented William Lloyd Garrison from preparing for the Peace Convention. Garrison writes about the convention: "Doubtless, there will be spakers enough without me; and yet I did hope to be able to express my views on some of the topics that might be presented for consideration. But you know that I shrink from extemporaneious discussion." He expects the majority to condemn the militia system and wars. He is convinced that Christ repudiated the use of weapons. He explains his view on the observance of the Sabbath
