Holograph, signed
The New England Freedmen's Aid Society opposed "the proposition to recognize the [National Freedmen's Aid] Commission as the head of the Freedmen's movement, having its Eastern and Western wings." Charles Lowe, Edward Southwick Philbrick, and William Lloyd Garrison were chosen to represent the New England Freedmen's Aid Society at a meeting of National Freedmen's Aid Commission, but none of them can go. The objections to the National Freedmen's Aid Commission include: the commission was not formed with the knowledge of the Society, there was no need for the organization, and Mr. Olmstead declined acting as Secretary
