Increase S. Smith comments about a letter: "How should such a 'Letter' get wind? It seems to me that the 'mouth piece' of the New Organisation must have been hard pressed indeed, to utter such sounds and sentiments as that Letter contains. Treachery will out sooner or later." He regrets that the Liberator mentioned Gerrit Smith "even in a query." Increase S. Smith is "heart-sick of all manoeuvering [sic] for party purposes." He has just finished reading Lyell's great work on geology. [The fifth edition of Sir Charles Lyell's "Principles of Geology" appeared in 1837, the "Elements of Geology" comprised a part of the former work.]
