Manuscript addressed to "Wm Lloyd Garrison, Esq Boston"
Joseph May writes William Lloyd Garrison concerning the latter's letter to the Vistior, and expresses his regrets at "my unfortunate misrepresentation of your position". May asserts that his detailing of Garrison's reasons for declining to attend the celebration was done so "playfully", and requests Garrison's pardon, admitting that it came across poorly in print. May states that he misunderstood Garrison's position as having objected as "a Baptist instead of as a 'Come-outer'," and gives Garrison his "unreserved and most sincere" apologies for the error
