Benjamin Bowen writes to Amos A. Phelps that he has been ́led to mistaké the object for the convention in Providence, and that he was unaware that by giving Phelps his name he was ́also declaring [himself] in favor of immediate emancipation.́ He asks Phelps to explain this to the public
