Racism?
In this serial, it's called acting, not racism. With that said, there was a lot of racism back in those days. There is a lot racism today. Racism actually was encouraged and promoted when Charles Darwin came up with his "theory" of evolution. Darwin and his buddies promoted and encouraged the murder of Australian Aborigines, and their skulls were boiled and studied, all the name of evolutionary "science". Ota Benga, an African Pygmy, was thrown in the Bronx Zoo in the early 1900s, and caged with the monkeys. Evolutionist, Stephen J. Gould, admitted, that racism increased exponentially, with the introduction and teaching of evolution.
It's a known fact, that blacks don't like the "N" word, that is, when whites say it. But, you can hear them calling each other,"n*gga", inside their own hip-hop music and culture. It seems, that many blacks are looking for a reason to hate, so they keep the racism going.
I've heard people crying,"racism", just because the Green Hornet had a side-kick named Kato, who was Chinese, or, the Lone Ranger had a side-kick named Tonto, who was an Indian. People can get so touchy, but at the same time, ignore their own destructive culture that is alive and well today. Even after the holocaust of WWII, anti-Semitism is still raging, and not with just Muslims. To pick on this serial because of racism, is quite petty.

Lost in the Lost City
Well, kiddies...here we have that devilishly handsome son of a gun Kane Richmond (none other than Spysmasher himself) battling William "Stage" Boyd who, in real life, was something of a rogue---so much so that having the same name caused some problems for that "other" William Boyd---better known as "Hopalong Cassidy" which is one of the reasons "Stage" Boyd had to insert that moniker in the middle of his name so he wouldn't be confused with the other (more famous) William Boyd.
But enough history...let's talk about the serial. It's gonna offend many of you almost throughout. (I know because there are things in here that offend ME!!!) But casual (and often but not always UNINTENTIONAL) racism was a part of the culture back then. I have been reliably informed that people have been furiously editing the Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Tom Swift series'
to make them politically correct for new generations of readers. And, mostly, I consider that to be a sign that things are better in this 21st Century than they were when this serial (and those books) first appeared. We still have a LONG way to go but it's better than it was.
The reason I mentioned those books, btw, is because this serial has a flavor of that---or, maybe it's more like a Rick Brant adventure.
Hmmm...some of you may be too young to remember Rick. Johnny Quest? Scooby Doo? How about Indiana Jones? Ah hah!
OK...well this is one of those old serials which played a part in the birth of Indiana Jones...like KING SOLOMON'S MINES you know...and Talbot Mundy's JIMGRIM books.
This isn't of the best serials ever made but I give it a couple of stars for thrills (there are some---especially that bit with the spider-worshippers BRRRR!!!! And 1 and a half more because Kane Richmond was such a HUNK!!!
So, 3 1/2 stars for the lost city. It's gonna say THREE because there are no half star poptions on the rating form but you and I know it's actually 3 1/2...right???
