Lightspeed Experiences - AHG02
Having just wrapped up the Tenth Annual Alberti Hurdy Gurdy (AHGX) a couple weeks back on 8/19-20 2006, i've found myself taking a step back from it all and admiring the body of work. Nostalgic about the evolution of what has become a party that defies categorization with a soundtrack to match. Although the event has continued to develop in magnitude and production complexity, nothing can duplicate the overwhelming fractal madness and one-minded passion of the early years. Laughing Water's sets back in these days...Tsing Tao...Claddagh Pub...you would have had to see it for yourself. You could dismiss it as "just a cover band". Whatever. If you lived in the Boston area in the mid to late 1990's...it was a powerful scene. I've seen countless Grateful Dead and Phish shows all over this country...I know what "the real thing" is. These guys were as real as anything i've ever experienced. The energy was infectious. The scene was alive. The music played the band. Laughing Water was the real deal. Nowhere did they just let it all go like they did at the AHG. 1998 was beyond belief. Hundreds of people, and hours upon hours of open ended jamming. The crowd was in a sustained frenzy as bonfires raged and stars and moonbeams melted into the treetops. Partying at lightspeed without a helmet. I can't believe the boundlessness of those days. Laughing Water. You meant so much to thousands of us in the days and years after August 9, 1995, and that's a fact. I personally can't thank you enough. Sincerely, CJQ

Mountains of the Moon
This was a fun show. All the AHG that we played at were special. The thing about this particular show that sparks my interest is the "Mountains Of The Moon" from this show was used on our CD we produced. Due to CD space and contour, the jam between Mountains and Uncle John's was omitted. It fades out on the CD seconds into the jam. I am glad to hear the full jam now and the Uncle John's as well. Makes me wish we could play the ÂGurdy again this year. If Glenn ever decides to move back to Massachusetts, John & I would do it in a heartbeat. Meanwhile enjoy the memories with me.

Perfect day
What a great time this was!! The Gurdy was always a special gig: great crowd, hospitable hosts, and if you stuck around long enough, a little Burning Man action right here in Massachusetts. Of all the ones we played, this was my fave. The weather was perfect and the crowd was into it from the very first notes of the acoustic set until the last electric notes pierced the air some 4 or 5 hours later. Hell, the mosquitoes even left me alone this time around, and when steam began to rise off of me, my friend and bass player Mike doused me with some cool water. Good times. The vibes were cosmic on this night.
