Love the Tsing Tao (wait, I already said that)
Two words... Live Dead. We wanted to recreate, to the best of our capabilities, The Live Dead album. "Dark Star > St. Stephen > Eleven > Turn On Your Lovelight > Death Don't Have No Mercy > Feedback > ..... And We Bid You Goodnight"
I think we did alright. A 20 minute "Dark Star" out of "Space" was a good start. This whole weekend is definitely "a keeper"

I just relistened to this and the 10/30 show from Tsing Tao again for the first time in ... years. I have to say; I like it. Not just cuz I was playing it, but the whole band had a good chemistry and, yeah.. it's not as great as the Dead at their fairest (never mind a great night), but it is still pretty F***ing good for a bunch of schlubs from south shore Massachussetts. I miss playing with Laughing Water. Reunions once every 2 yrs or so is not enough.

Second of 2 spooky nights at the Tsing Tao
This is the second of 2 shows available here from Halloween weekend, 1998. The Tsing Tao's room usually didn't yield our best tapes, but these have gone through some EQ and other minor processing to make them more listenable (and so far I'm hearing that the results are a LOT better than the original...stream a track and decide for yourself).
This show is a lot better than I remembered! Set 1 is great and features some rarities, played to an appreciative crowd. Set 2 has a nonstop 68 minutes of music on its way through an appreciation for "Live Dead" - we played that whole album and tried to capture its spirit, based on its own extreme spookiness factor and it being Halloween and all.
VERY solid show in general, I first put this up with 4 stars but now I think it deserves 5. I'd recommend getting this together with 10/30/98 which features an entirely different set list. The two together make for 4 compatible discs with no repeats, and fine performances.
