Subject: Very loose show, great sound quality
Great, clean soundboard recording, probably first generation source.
I was at this show, it was my first Mekons show ever. I was too young to see them at the Abbey, so I took a long lunch break to see them here. Mostly acoustic show (the accordian comes through pretty clear), only Susie couldn't make it to the show, but everyone else was there.
Very loose set, a bit ragged and relaxed; the mix isn't great on this recording (the band tells the mixer it's too trebly after the first number, but there's also a recurring problem with burying the vocals too much), but not bad. The best cuts are the ones from OOH!, the album they just released. I heard "Old Trip to Jerusaleum" for the first time here, and it's great.
So many people came here, many had to sit behind the band due to lack of space. After the show, everyone got to talk to the band, buy CD's, etc. I was a bit of a fan-boy and asked them to sign my CD's, which are still in good shape after all this time. A good time for all...
P.S. I recall asking Jon a question about Sally, and I made the boneheaded mistake of calling her Sonny, partly because I had only been listening to the band for a month or so. He was nice enough not to make a stink about it...
