Includes two copies of the letter, and an additional direction to circulate it for underwriting before sending it to J. W. Alden, Rev. Alanson At. Clair, or Rev. J. Brewer, or directly to the Secretaries of the Board--Rev. R. Anderson or Rev. David Greene
This printed letter, which was prepared to be circulated among the "friends and patrons" of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions to be signed before being presented to the Board itself, praises some actions of the Board that indicate its anti-slavery position, while pointing out other contradictory facts, such as Rev. J. S. Wilson, one of their missionaries, being a slaveholder. The letter asks the Board to let [their] position and principles of action be clearly defined in respect to slavery
